PC Fighting Game

Posted by josh-tamugaia - June 17th, 2012

Hi Everyone. This is Josh Tam from Tamugaia.com and it's been quite some time since my last post. Have been working on a new fighting game called Fist of Victory. Halfway done, and on the way! However, I ran into a problem. I ran out of funds. What I did was to set up an Indiegogo project to raise some more funds.

I would sincere like to request for help from you in making this game a success. If everything goes well, the game can be launched around early August, which is less than 2 months from now. So how can you help?

The first method is to by donating. Go to the Fist of Victory Indiegogo page and read the details and then if you would like to contribute, just click on the pink "Contribute Now" button. You won't get nothing though. Different contributions have different "Perks" such as being credited in the game, having your logo or website/blog URL in the game and so on...

The second method is by helping to share the Fist of Victory Indiegogo page. This way, you can help reach out to possible contributors. This is also a great help! You can do this by using the Sharing tools under the video on the page. You can LIKE it on Facebook, Tweet it, share the URL, and so on. If you do that, you would not get any perks but please comment on the Indiegogo project page or here or email me, so I can personally thank you!

So where is this Indiegogo page? It can be found here: Fist of Victory IndieGogo page
You will be able to view the game details and contribute by going there!

Last of all, here's the first promo video of the Fist of Victory game!

If you have any questions and ideas about the game, feel free to shoot!

What do you need contributions for?

Funding. You know, cash.

Feel free to shoot, eh? Alright...
First glance at the trailer does not impress. So far the look of the game seems very much like old flash games, reminds me of Bloody Rage released back in 2002. The character models would need some work and the backgrounds could use a little more life to them. Not to mention the "Fight" and "Finished" messages... I can understand the visuals still needing a polish, being only halfway through development, no sweat. Soundtrack is not very impressive yet, though the style you are pursuing does shine through. The very first frame you show in the trailer (the one with the dragon and the butterfly) I think also resembles really well what you are going for. I think that those are drawn really well and could be used as example for the rest of the game. This may seem like nitpicking and non-constructive feedback, but the cover of the game will make a break a game a lot of times in both the fighting games scene as the indie business. Far more important than first impressions though, is weather your game will stick or not, weather people will tell their friends to go and get it. And this is where good solid mechanics and game balance play huge roles. Make every single movement and frame feel rock solid yet fluent (might not make sense...). Make every action feel responsive and accurate to the player's input. The fighting game community (as you might have some experience with) is a harsh one. Not too fond of new things, especially not poorly built things. Mechanics and flow will determine a lot the staying power of your game. Balance can also ruin a fighting game very easily. Get proper testing done on all characters and all of their moves and make it so all characters are equal. Besides my warnings and nagging I'll leave you with some places to find experienced players you can use for such tests. I'd recommend you try Dustloop, Shoryuken and maybe Smashboards (some old Melee players could help you out there). Hopefully I said anything helpful since it's getting close to 2:30am... But in any case I would like to wish you the best of luck.

Hey it's ok. I do agree with what you are saying, being a fighting game player myself. But hey you know I'm not some huge company and all, thus the funding request, so I can do the best I can. Thanks for the feedback.

Why do you need the money? Like what would it go to? (reply in PM please I wont remember to check back here)
